SINGLE CREDIT COURSE ON NEGOTIABLE INSTRUMENTS ACT 1881

At Centre for Banking and Insurance Law, we strongly feel that the aim of legal education is not only to be found within the pages of law books. It was with this aim and objective in our minds that we have had the good fortune of conducting a Single Credit Course on the NEgotiable Instruments Act, 1881.

The Single Credit Course on “Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881” was organized by CBIL in online mode from 11th February, 2026 to 25th February, 2026. The course was joined by 431 participants, from both our University and outside, ranging from students to working professionals.

The resource person for our course was Prof. (Dr.) Dolly Jabbal, Professor of Law at NLUO. She provided students with a comprehensive understanding of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 (“NI Act”), with specific emphasis on the legislative intent, evolution, and contemporary relevance of Section 138 in commercial transactions. The course enlightened students about the recent amendments and trajectory of the NI Act and helped them examine the statutory framework, scope, and essential ingredients of cheque dishonour under Section 138, enabling them to appreciate its preventive and deterrent role in ensuring financial discipline.
